Production Log w/ 5
Throught the last week we were set to analyse the British social realist film, 'Fish tank'. The case study on the film Fish tank was an extremely long piece of work which had so much analysing to it. We were told to analyse things such as; Themes and situations, Representation of characters, The mise-en-scene, Music, Sound effects and so on. Although this was a long piece of work I actually enjoyed it because we got to analyse a film which was quite current and interesting to watch.
By doing deep analyses on this film it helped me to be a lot more familiar with the common bsr themes and situations an also get different ideas of mise-en-scene which can contribute to my work. In this film there were unusual roles been played by the characters as they did not fit into the stereotypical representation. For instance the mother playes an uncaring, rude, ignorant role that is more interested in partying then looking after her own child. This subverts the stereotypical representation of a mother as they would normally be caring and loving.
The representation of characters helped me gain more ideas on how i will portray the characters in my opening sequence. Overall this case study will have an impact on my work as it gave me more ideas on the conventions of a British social realist film.
